It’s Complicated: What’s the right 1:1 device for your school?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

At Chadwick School, our campuses in Palos Verdes, CA and Songdo, South Korea, have a complicated relationship with 1:1 devices: younger students have iPads, Middle Schoolers have Mac laptops, and Upper School students can bring whatever device they choose.

Why on earth would we make our lives so complicated? Because it makes sense to invest in the best tools for each user. How did we arrive at our decisions?

Most recently, we took a hard look at the pros and cons of using iPads vs. using other devices in our Middle School. Through a formalized review process, we changed to a 1:1 Mac laptop program for the 2016-17 school year.

In this seminar/conversation, we will discuss the hows and whys of Chadwick's program and draw parallels to others' programs. Because we included stakeholders from all aspects of the Chadwick community, we will discuss the balance we reached between parents, educators, administrators and students. The financial, infrastructure, and social implications will all be looked at in detail.

Because this is a discussion, the plan for audience participation is to have an open Q&A continuing throughout the session. We will welcome questions at anytime, and look forward to the conversations about the hard issues and often controversial subjects that arise.
